This year has been full of art competitions for the Timberwolves!  The K-4 students submit Beautiful Nebraska pictures to the GFWC women's club contest in early February every year.  I usually have a 5th or 6th-grader who will comment, "I wish we could still do those."  The kids like to draw Chimney Rock, rivers, and rainbows. We will always get at least one brave artist who draws the state capital building!  The women's club also visits the school to judge a local art contest.  Winners are chosen from many different mediums and in all grades, from kindergarten to seniors.  This year's best-of-show winners were Neal Scott- 9th-12th grade; Archer Kanode- 6th-8th grade; and Kyson Lindberg in the K-5th grade.  The artwork and the 1st and 2nd place ribbons are displayed throughout the school.  The first place winners will go on to Districts in the middle of March and have a chance to compete at State if they win.

The Pioneer Conference has a High School art contest that we participate in.  This is displayed at the Host site for the Conference Basketball tournament at Fall City Sacred Heart this year.  We submitted 33 works of art from EM's High School art students.  Four students were recognized for seven different works of art.  Kmila Benitez and Neal Scott received 1st place medals, Brooklyn Oldehoeft a 2nd place medal, Neal Scott received a 3rd place medal, Liberty Johnson had 2 honorable mentions, and Kmila received an honorable mention.

We also participate in Nebraska's Youth Art Month.  Nebraska Art Teachers Association asks all schools across Nebraska to submit two works of art that will be displayed at the State Capital!  This special show concludes with a ceremony in the Rotunda of the Capital.  If you are in Lincoln March 2-15, you should stop by the capital building and check it out! This year, 3rd-grade Laney Havel and 1st-grade Cora Foutch will have their work on display!

Thanks to the Exeter Area GFWC for investing time into the EM kids and supporting fine arts for our students.
